Position Title: Director of Sacred Music
Supervisor: Priest-in-Charge
Start Date: Summer 2026
Hours: Part-Time 10-15 hours per week, including Sundays.
Compensation: $25K per yr

The Director of Music helps develop and lead the worship music ministry for Saint Nicholas Church, in consultation with clergy and in a way that is consistent with Saint Nicholas’ mission, vision, and theology. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide musical leadership for all public worship services that require it.
  • Weekly meetings with clergy to select and plan music for Sunday and midweek services.
  • Participate in the planning and rehearsal of any special services during the liturgical year.
  • Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise and care for music team.
  • Communicate faithfully with clergy and staff, especially when coordinating previously unplanned services like funerals and when unavailable or out of town.
  • Oversee sound and video equipment and volunteers.
  • Maintain the music library and playlist.
  • Create periodic opportunities in which children may participate musically in worship.
  • Personal participation in workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. is encouraged.

  • Attested musical skills and competence.

  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative.
  • Bachelors degree in Music (Masters preferred) or equivalent experience.

Musical Competencies:

  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and technical team members.
  • Ability to attune with a wide body of musical styles related to liturgy and worship.
  • Ability to lead worship and to train others as individual and team worship leaders.
  • Professional quality piano (preferred) or guitar player.
  • Arranging and sequencing music; writing and composition a plus.
  • Producing and directing special events and programs.
  • Experience with technical aspects of contemporary services: for example, sound boards, theater lights, video editing, etc.
