ASH WEDNESDAY, FEB. 17 at 12 noon and 7pm
Ash Wednesday – the beginning of the penitential season of Lent. The Lenten season lasts forty days (not including Sundays) and is a reminder of Moses’ forty days in the wilderness and Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness after his Baptism. The use of ashes as a symbol of repentance goes back to the Old Testament. In those days, persons seeking repentance would dress in sackcloth, cover their heads and shoulders with ashes, and make confession before God. The use of ashes has been a common experience in Christianity since the third century when the Church adopted the Lenten season as a preparation for the celebration of Easter. The use of ashes is a token or symbolic reminder that all of us – no matter who we are – come from the earth and one day shall return to dust and ash. For centuries, Christians have used the Lenten season as a time for reflection, prayer and often fasting.

THE PARENT ADVENTURE:
PREPARING YOUR CHILDREN FOR A LIFETIME WITH GOD, begins March 21

The Parent Adventure teach moms and dads how to prepare their kids for a lifetime with God. The parental attitude of “letting go” must begin intentionally at birth, keeping in mind that each child’s life is more about knowing God than anything else. Knowing that God has a
lifelong plan for each family member, parents and kids will grow closer to each other just as sure as they will grow closer to God.
Kathy Stroud is leading this class on Sunday mornings at 10am in Jacoby Parish Hall
beginning March 21!
The Sunday morning sessions are discussion based with questions to prompt conversation and a DVD presentation that prompts further discussion. Whether your kids are toddlers or in high school, you will find this class helpful.
